Led by wellness practitioner Faarooq Mangera of Also My Jozi Tours, this walk around Fordsburg North, Fietas, and Mayfair East neighbourhoods show how Apartheid’s plans to divide people did not fully work. Fordsburg and Fietas, marked as “Indian” areas, were home to many different groups and ideas. Locals bravely fought against forced removals for decades, and some still live there today. Fordsburg’s shops on 14th Street were replaced to build The Plaza, breaking up tight-knit communities. Despite Apartheid, people mixed together, especially in Mayfair. Women were key, keeping communities strong. Walkers will learn these stories, meet local authors, and taste homemade treats. PARKING & SAFETY:Please note that safe parking with car guards on duty has been identified for all walks. Safety marshals will also join you on the walk. All ticket holders will be sent an Aide Memoire with clear parking and walk meeting point coordinates as well as other key details before the walk.
