Led by wellness practitioner Faarooq Mangera of Also My Jozi Tours, this walk around Fordsburg North, Fietas, and Mayfair East neighbourhoods show how Apartheid’s plans to divide people did not fully work. Fordsburg and Fietas, marked as “Indian” areas, were home to many different groups and ideas. Locals bravely fought against forced removals for decades, and some still live there today. Fordsburg’s shops on 14th Street were replaced to build The Plaza, breaking up tight-knit communities. Despite Apartheid, people mixed together, especially in Mayfair. Women were key, keeping communities strong. Walkers will learn these stories, meet local authors, and taste homemade treats.
