More about the ThemeBirds of passages (in the Zulu context) believe this about journeying: Ukuhamba ukubona (to journey is to see, or know). This suggests that we come to know through our traveling, or through the travel experiences of those who’ve gone ahead of us (abaphambili - elders/guides/teachers) - that through their guidance (knowing/seeing) we come to know, or break into our own awakening (which isn’t our ‘own’ but a collective consciousness). The SAE 2024 Creative Showcase will explore the Zulu proverb and students have been invited to enter projects that adhere, disrupt, or diversify the theme.
The theme reflects the transformative power of experiences and the creative explorations of our students. From animation to gaming, film to sound, this showcase highlights the diverse and unique journeys each student has embarked on. Through their work, they express what it means to venture into the unknown, embrace learning, and ultimately discover new perspectives and insights.
As you explore the showcase, you’ll be taken on a visual and auditory journey that celebrates creativity, curiosity, and the personal growth that comes with exploration. Each piece is a testament to the power of the journey, revealing not only the final work but the process of self-discovery along the way.
Join us at ‘Ukuhamba Ukubona’ as we reach deeper into our roots, celebrating the origins and authenticity of our creative voices. Experience the artistic expression by engaging in the sounds and visuals of the creations and performances.
