Yakhal’ Inkomo: The Sound of UP Jazz
UP Jazz EnsembleDirected by Prof Mageshen Naidoo
The UP Jazz Ensemble presents a concert celebrating the work of South African jazz composers.
Directed by Prof Mageshen Naidoo, the ensemble consists of students from the Jazz Studies programme in the University of Pretoria’s School of the Arts: Department of Music. The programme brings together works by Abdullah Ibrahim, Bheki Mseleku, Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Fezile Christopher Columbus Ngcukana, Duke Makasi, Moses Taiwa Molelekwa, Nduduzo Makhathini, Afrika Mkhize and Bokani Dyer.
Featuring woodwind, brass and rhythm sections, the ensemble will be joined by guest soloist Abraham Mennen on tenor saxophone.

For this concert, the audience will be seated on the Aula stage alongside the musicians, creating an intimate jazz setting rather than a traditional auditorium experience. Seating is limited to 150 guests.
Tickets include a light meal and refreshments. A wine bar will be available, with wine sold separately.
