The legacy Series is a rare and highly sought after monthly Jazz and Alternative music platform celebrating the Legends and pioneers of our rich music heritage. These Artists have long standing careers with deep connection with their fans and continue to grow annually. This series aims to ensure our legends have a home, and a quality platform to share their music in an elevated setting, bringing dignity back to their names and their artform.
The name Siphokazi has become synonymous with soulful sounds, poignant lyrics and sophisticated Afro-chic style. But what’s probably more celebrated than this woman’s musical gift is her humility. This award winning songbird is indeed a great gift to SA music. Siphokazi (The Great Gift) was born in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape of South Africa. In 2000, she received a bursary from The National Arts Council, enabling her to enroll at Central Johannesburg College, where she completed her diploma in Music technology, where she met Mr Bheki Khoza who was her lecture but also introduced her to many south african legends. Bheki Khoza also introduced her in the making of the Sophiatown Documentary and she was hired as one of the residential backing singers. Shortly after, through Musa Mhlongo (Other lecture) she was introduced to a South African icon, Mr Tshepo Tshola, whom she started working with professionally as a backing singer. She also did backing vocals for Stimela, ZamaJobe and Ringo Madlingozi.
Besides singing, Siphokazi has developed a passion for philanthropy. She has contributed to many communities throughout South Africa, promoting self- awareness, education and leadership. For many of these communities, Siphokazi is considered their most reliable resource.
