The Blue Album, written and performed by Vuyelwa Maluleke, is a one-woman chorus set in Makaleng, a South African township. Through poetry, movement, and choral voice, Khumo – a young Black lesbian – navigates the borders of love and danger, memory and survival. Weaving intimate monologue with the public silences of township life, Maluleke exposes with aching precision the slow violence’s Black queer women endure. This is a reckoning with what remains when home becomes the mouth of a man.
