Program of Introductory Course on local Invasive Alien and Problem Plant Control.presented by Karin Spottiswoode, author her newly published book“Invasive alien & problem plants on the Witwatersrand and Magaliesberg – field guide”

Cost: R450, which includes the Invasive Plant book.R250 if the participant already has the book.Worksheets are included in the course.

Requirements: 1. Each participant will need the Invasive Alien & Problem plants book.2. As the course will be a “hands-on” course, the participants need to wear boots or walking shoes, gaiters to protect socks or just short socks, non-stretchy clothing as those attract seeds and burr – jeans, jean shorts, cotton shirts, raincoats are recommended.

1. Presentation on the Invasive Plants book

Manual on what these AIPs (Alien Invasive Plants) are, how to identify them, what harm they do to our natural environment, how to distinguish them from similar, non-harmful indigenous plants and how to eradicate them.This book is based on practical experience gained mostly in the Kloofendal Nature Reserve.

2. Presentation on the need of management of AIP Control – initial planning, record keeping of plants removed and future planning.3. Books cost R200 each, available from Karin Spottiswoode,

4. Practical in the field4a. In the field ID work4b. Methodology taking out the AIPs using the various tools4c. Demonstration on recording of work done.

5. Attendance certificate – participants will receive an attendance certificate at the end of the course.
