The Fall is an award-winning and internationally acclaimed collaborative protest theatre play that reflects on experiences of student activists within the #RhodesMustFall and subsequent student-led movements, as they fearlessly advocate for a free decolonized education.
As the statue of imperialist Cecil John Rhodes was dismantled at the
University of Cape Town, eight students wrote this searing and insightful play
about the crosscutting roles that race, class, gender, sexism, colonialism and
the ideologies of patriarchy have had to play in the perpetuation of
discrimination in our country.
The Theatre Duo and Market Theatre are proud to present a reimagined staging
of The Fall, in tribute to the #FeesMustFall movement.

The Fall has been seen in South Africa, Europe, UK, and America and was also a New York Times Critic’s Pick, which went on to play to sold-out houses and receive critical acclaim both internationally and locally. This reimagined production (originally produced by The Baxter Theatre Centre) will be staged and performed by three of the original creators, along with additional new cast members.
