Internationally acclaimed performance artist and NYC Bessie Award winner
Albert Ibokwe Khoza collaborates with award-winning director Princess Zinzi
Mhlongo to present The Black Circus of The Republic of Bantu.
This installation-based performance reflects on ethnic beauty and pride systematically damaged over generations. It confronts the legacy of early studies that dehumanized black bodies as “different species” and asks how we reconcile this painful history. The artists pay tribute to Sarah Baartman and the many Africans whose bodies were exploited, honoring ancestors who sacrificed for the world.
