2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the ‘Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes’ in Paris, widely considered to mark the official birth of the Art Deco style. And what better way to celebrate this glamorous centenary than with a bus tour to Springs - the humble East Rand town with one of the highest concentrations of Art Deco architecture in the World.
Riding on the economic good fortunes of local gold and coal mines, in the 1930’s Springs reimagined itself in the Art Deco style. And you’ll find it expressed everywhere: from Art Deco fire stations to municipal buildings, apartment buildings to car dealerships, filling stations to corner shops.
The unique tour will be led by Yasmin Mayat and Brendan Hart, well respected heritage architects, consultants and academics. So, don’t miss this special opportunity to explore a remarkable architectural time capsule. The tour will also include a visit to a little known military museum.
