Linda Van Coppenhagen is returning home from Germany to perform in Johannesburg for the first time in over fourteen years. Linda has been singing professionally in Germany since 2011. Subsequent to her winning 1st prize in “The AKTVMusiqanto Classical Singing Competition” in Stellenbosch in 2010, she relocated to Germany to pursue her singing career. Linda will be performing songs from her debut album“Heimwee” at Northwards House in Parktown, Johannesburg, in July this year. Two professional South African musicians will be accompanying her for this show: the excellent Paul Ferreira on the piano and the virtuoso clarinettist Lizet Smith.

In 2023, our very own Linda Van Coppenhagen managed to secure a sponsorship from the German Music Council’s“Neustart Kultur” initiative. This exciting opportunity allowed her to record an album of German and South African art songs in Leipzig. “Heimwee: Lieder aus zwei Heimaten” waslaunched and released in Germany in 2024.We are delighted to announce that this Northwards Houseconcert will be the South African launch of “Heimwee”.

This distinctive album features both German and Afrikaans classical art songs.

During the concert, she will share insight into the creative process that gave birth to her album. CDs will be available for sale at the concert.

In a time when contact with her fatherland was strictly prohibited, Linda embarked on an emotional journey of self-discovery. During the cold, restrictive years of the coronavirus pandemic, she was driven by a profound sense of longing for the warmth and affection of her homeland.

Today, the loneliness, isolation, and fear we suffered during the pandemic are but a distant memory. This album serves as a reminder that even the most difficult and challenging of times can eventually be transformed into something beautiful.
