The tragedy of Samuel Omunye is a two-hander play that asks the existential question of whether or not humans have free will. The debate around the theory of freewill and hard determinism is old and popular in different studies like philosophy, science and theology, but very rarely is the theory applied to real life events - which is exactly what this play does.
This debate is set in the post-colonial fictional country of Niamba, and has a civil war as its background. The play follows two friends, a professor and a general, debating whether or not their lives are a result of choices or chance, all the while 60, 000 + lives are hanging on by the outcomes of this heated battle of ideas.
