Following a successful staged reading, Sentebale makes its official premiere this August. Sentebale follows a young girl who finds herself in a strange place. Each moment serves to unravel clues to the answers she seeks on the quest to find her way home. Blurring the line between play and peril, this solo piece is a tragic journey of bravery, inviting the audience to ask - what happens when we forget? Developed through an immersive research & writing process, Sentebale draws on real-life stories, Setswana folklore and embodied memory to explore the haunting realities of child trafficking in South Africa.
Written and performed by Thuto Lesedi Gaasenwe and co-directed with Omphile Molusi, this daring piece offers a visceral theatrical experience and marks a bold new voice in South African theatre.
