This September, the celebrated and explosive masterpiece WE ARE STILL MARCHING comes to life on the iconic Soweto Theatre stage.
This performance is a display of world-class contemporary dance and fierce
rhythmic protest that directly mirrors the pain and fury currently gripping
our nation. A masterfully layered production, it does not simply comment on
grief, it transforms it.
Created in Moving Into Dance’s signature Afro-fusion and contemporary style,
the show seamlessly blends commanding physical theatre, intricate rhythm, and
deeply emotive storytelling.
The Power Behind the Movement, Sunnyboy Motau’s choreography explores the historical and contemporary act of marching. It is framed not just as a political statement, but as an instinctual form of survival, collective healing, and defiance. Through breathtaking ensemble work and intense solos, the dancers embody the profound dualities of the South African experience: the heavy burden of systemic oppression juxtaposed with an unbreakable, joyful spirit that refuses to be silenced. It honours the historic 1956 women’s march while delivering an urgent, modern confrontation, demanding to know why the women of today are still forced to fight for the same basic right to safety.
