Threads: A Journey of Self-Discovery
Threads is a bold and transformative production born from the creative process
of students in the Applied Arts and Arts Program (APAAM) at the Joburg
Theatre, in collaboration with Wits Drama for Life. Like strands woven into
fabric, each story in Threads connects to form a tapestry of identity, memory,
and resilience.
Drawing from the concept of ukuzilanda—“to fetch oneself”—the production
unravels the ties between past and present, trauma and healing, self and
society.
Through powerful comedic and dramatic monologues, the performers stitch
together fragments of lived experience, questioning who we are, who the world
tells us to be, and who we choose to become.
Threads is at once deeply personal and profoundly universal. Each voice is a
strand, and together they create a collective fabric that reflects the
struggles, joys, and indomitable strength of the human spirit.
Join us as we weave an unforgettable journey of self, community, and
discovery—where every voice is a thread, and every story strengthens the
whole.
