Vivaldi’s Four Seasons was published on 1 January 1725, so this year marks the 300th anniversary of its performance. The popularity of the work is such that there are currently over 450 recordings of it. In recent years, Max Richter has “recomposed” the piece to show a new interpretation can add a different vitality to it, while keeping to the foundations that Vivaldi created. The Apple Green Orchestra will play two short movements - Spring 1 and Summer 1 - from Richter’s vision of the piece. This will be the first performance of these in South Africa.
Flute and oboe will feature in the concert with Albinoni’s “Concerto for Flute and Oboe Op 9 No 9” and Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Flute and Oboe RV 535”. Soloists will be Tim Roberts on oboe and Anna-Maria Vermeulen on flute. Eugene Joubert will play harpsichord. The Apple Green Orchestra is directed by Tim Roberts.
Two further pieces will round off the programme: “I Giorni” by Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi. The title of the piece translates into English as “The days”. Igor Stravinsky’s “Serenata from the Pulcinella Suite” will also be on the programme.
