“Hola Kau”
“Hola” = to greet (like “heita”).
“Kau” = a streetwise expression that can mean my guy, my homie, my brother
is a one-of-a-kind township experience where music, poetry, and live art
collide on stage. Rooted in Soweto’s kasi spirit, the show takes the audience
on a heartfelt journey — from prayer and memory, through struggle and
resistance, to healing and celebration. Led by rapper-drummer Bopha Blackman
AFM alongside poet Makhafula Vilakazi and visual artist Mzwandile Buthelezi,
the performance unfolds like a living mural, with every beat, brushstroke, and
word painting the story of resilience and community.
It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s a reminder of the joy and power that keep our people moving forward. The project represents a call to action to restore and embrace collaboration to rebuild and sustain artistic legacy. Inspired by the philosophy of Sis Ma Brrr, this project aims to remind creatives Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu— “I am because we are”.
