Oakfields College’s Award-Winning Godspell Returns
Following its Naledi Award win for Best Student Production, Godspell returns to the stage in partnership with the Wits Theatre from 27 August to 7 September 2025.
Brought to life once again by director Tracey Human and musical director Dale Ray, this vibrant re-staging features Oakfields College’s talented musical theatre and dance students, now joined by guest stars Grant Towers (as Judas) and Yahto Kraft (as Jesus).
A blend of rock, pop, and folk, Stephen Schwartz’s Godspell remains a Broadway favourite - retelling parables from the Gospel of Matthew through high-energy storytelling and unforgettable songs like Day by Day.
The 2024 run received glowing reviews, sold-out houses, and national acclaim - not just for its creativity, but for honouring the show’s powerful legacy in South African theatre. First staged here in 1973 by Des and Dawn Lindberg, Godspell broke barriers with its multiracial cast during apartheid, a moment that forever shaped local theatre.
This new run continues that spirit - bold, relevant, and driven by the next generation of performers.
