As part of the Wren Hinds Band’s debut tour to Johannesburg and Pretoria, Railways Café proudly hosts a powerful double bill: Wren Hinds Band and Reets, live on Friday, August 22nd.
Wren Hinds, based in Cape Town and raised on South Africa’s East Coast, has quietly become one of the most compelling singer-songwriters in the southern hemisphere. His 2023 album Don’t Die in the Bundu, released on UK label Bella Union (Fleet Foxes, Beach House, Midlake, Father John Misty), was hailed by Mojo Magazine as “a subtle form of intensity,” and described by Record Collector as “a gently beguiling set of sweet, soft hymns to hope in choppy times.”
For this special Railways Café performance, Wren will be joined by his full band: Jonno Sweetman (drums), Maurice Paliaga (bass), and Dylan Fine (electric guitar)—each bringing their own touch to Hinds’ richly layered and emotionally resonant sound.
Sharing the stage is Reets, a rising voice in South Africa’s independent scene. Writing introspective lyrics in both English and Afrikaans, she pairs emotional intensity with colourful vocal interplay. Her authentic stage presence and unconventional musical approach are often described as magnetic. A self-taught guitarist with a love for blues and classic rock, Reets moves effortlessly between husky growls and soaring melodies, weaving finger-picked patterns into alt-folk anthems.
Don’t miss this inspired double bill in one of Pretoria’s most iconic live music spaces. One night only. Two magnetic performers. A rare and moving musical encounter.”
