“As part of the Wren Hinds Band’s debut tour to Johannesburg and Pretoria, The Hangout at The Troyville Hotel proudly hosts a rooftop takeover by two of Cape Town’s finest musical exports: Wren Hinds Band and Kayla the Crow, live on Sunday, August 24th.
Wren Hinds, based in Cape Town and raised on South Africa’s East Coast, has quietly become one of the most compelling singer-songwriters in the southern hemisphere. His 2023 album Don’t Die in the Bundu, released on UK label Bella Union (Fleet Foxes, Beach House, Midlake, Father John Misty), was hailed by Mojo Magazine as “a subtle form of intensity,” and described by Record Collector as “a gently beguiling set of sweet, soft hymns to hope in choppy times.”
For this special Troyville performance, Wren will be joined by his full band: Jonno Sweetman (drums), Maurice Paliaga (bass), and Dylan Fine (electric guitar).
Sharing the stage is Kayla the Crow, a genre-blurring singer-songwriter known for weaving together elements of pop, psychedelic rock, and ambient soundscapes. With a distinctive voice and magnetic stage presence, Kayla has earned a loyal following for her fusion of analogue charm and modern production. Her music is rich with dreamy synths, soulful vocals, and hook-laden melodies that defy easy categorisation.
